Independence Holding Company ("IHC") is a holding company engaged principally in the life and health insurance businesses through its wholly owned, well-established life and health insurers, Standard Security Life Insurance Company of New York and Madison National Life Insurance Company, Inc., and through its Managing General Underwriters. IHC also owns 40% of the stock of AMIC. IHC and AMIC have long been recognized as leaders in the Medical Stop Loss industry.
Standard Security Life is licensed in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several Latin American and Caribbean countries. Its core products are medical stop-loss, New York short-term DBL, group life (including a division devoted to the life and annuity needs of volunteer firefighters), and managed health care.
AMIC is a holding company principally engaged in the health insurance and reinsurance businesses through its wholly owned P&C company and through its MGU division which includes Majestic.
